Brunei Halal

There are numerous Halal standards all over the world, certifying agencies exist for different types of standards

The government of Malaysia is well known for having a Halal certifying agency within the government. Brunei is similar because their agency is the Ministry of Religion. For foreign products, the Wafirah HD SDN BHD, or Wafirah HD, is in charge and they work directly for the MIPR.

Therefore Brunei certifying agency is well trusted and holds a strong presence in the Halal market.

The application method for Halal certification is the same among different products such as food, medicine, and make-up. However, the Brunei Halal guidelines only exist for food and none for others yet..

In July of 2012, the guidelines for make-up was drafted but none for medicinal products. Since the guidelines do not exist, they only application they accept is for food products.

Since the guidelines do not exist, they only application they accept is for food products.

Depending on the product, domestic or foreign, the method of the Halal certification is different.

If it’s domestic, just send in your application directly to the Ministry of Religion.

For international products, the Wafirah HD manages everything and within exists the Ghanim International Food Corporation SDN BHD or Ghanim for short. The application is sent to Ghanim, once approved to be a Halal product it is sold in the market.

However, when the product is approved by Ghanim to be marketed in Brunei, the name and logo mark etc. of the original country that made the food is detracted from the product.

In order to prevent that, it is important to have a factory in Brunei to produce products domestically.
